Xfinity gateway features vary by provided hardware and service. Check the exact gateway before placing another router behind it.
Before you change anything
A provider policy may depend on service and gateway firmware. Never assume an unsupported bridge or port-forwarding menu exists.
Mode and feature reference
| Bridge mode | true |
|---|---|
| IP Passthrough | Check exact gateway |
| Port forwarding | Check exact gateway |
Before changing mode
Bridge mode disables the gateway private Wi-Fi/routing; eero bridge behavior is different. Admin Tool access may first need app enablement. Only one downstream router/device connection in bridge mode; service/extension dependencies require checking.
- Identify the gateway model and any TV or voice service on it.
- Record present cabling and Wi-Fi names.
- Confirm the provider’s recovery procedure before switching modes.
Check the result
After one change, verify a wired client, Wi-Fi clients, and any TV or phone service. If service disappears, restore the recorded mode and cabling.
