Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: GL.iNet Brume 2 / GL-MT2500, which has no Wi-Fi module or repeater mode.

Official evidence: GL.iNet Brume 2 GL-MT2500/MT2500A, GL.iNet Brume 2 user guide.

Before you begin

  • Connect a wired laptop to the LAN interface before altering WAN settings.
  • Prepare ISP modem/router uplink cable; confirm whether upstream gateway already performs NAT.

Important: The 1GbE LAN can limit a one-port wired client path even when the WAN interface is 2.5GbE.

Physical layout

ISP modem/gateway -> Brume 2 2.5GbE WAN -> 1GbE LAN -> switch or AP -> clients

What to check / do

  1. Identify the 2.5GbE WAN and 1GbE LAN ports and connect based on the official device diagram.
  2. Open the local GL.iNet admin interface at 192.168.8.1 only if the current network uses the documented default configuration.
  3. Set WAN mode based on ISP/upstream handoff; check WAN address before enabling VPN.
  4. Do not look for repeater SSID or wireless AP radio settings: the Brume 2 lacks Wi-Fi hardware.
  5. If users need Wi-Fi, connect a separate wireless AP downstream; test it with VPN disabled, then enable vendor-supported VPN client/server only after checking reachable public IP or CGNAT conditions.

Verify the result

  • Wired client has internet access before VPN is enabled.
  • VPN tunnels can be checked without sharing keys with an external troubleshooting website.

If the result is not what you expected

  • Stop changing settings if you cannot identify the model or a reliable administrator recovery path.
  • Use the exact manufacturer support link below and quote your hardware label, firmware version, and what changed.

Restore / undo

Turn off the newly added VPN policy and restore the recorded WAN configuration, then retest basic wired internet.
