Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: eero Plus/Guardian service and supported user devices.

Checked: 2026-11-01 · Risk: caution · Status: source-grounded editorial draft; not hands-on tested.

Before you begin

Separate protecting a phone from tunneling every LAN device. Subscription and app eligibility must be checked at use time; no fixed price is included.

Procedure

  1. In the supported eero app, open Home > Security & privacy > VPN, powered by Guardian.
  2. Review the terms and requested device VPN permission before enabling it.
  3. Use the official account flow for additional supported client apps.
  4. For a TV or another LAN device, independently verify whether that device runs the VPN or a separate router actually provides a tunnel.

Verify the result

The intended device shows the active VPN and its traffic follows the expected route. Do not infer protection of other devices.

Undo or recover

Disconnect through that device’s eero/Guardian interface and remove only the profile you intentionally added.

Stop and escalate

A request for arbitrary router-wide WireGuard/OpenVPN must be handled by a separately verified router capability record.

Evidence and interpretation limits

This source establishes a device-level service. Native eero VPN client/server fields remain unknown in this research pack rather than being filled from this subscription page.

The steps above combine paraphrased official instructions with an original safety and test workflow. They are not a verbatim manual, a guaranteed fix, or evidence of a common hardware defect.
