An ASUS router whose exact firmware supports WireGuard client/VPN Fusion.
Check the exact device
Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.
Applies to: An ASUS router whose exact firmware supports WireGuard client/VPN Fusion.
Checked: 2026-11-01 · Risk: caution · Status: source-grounded editorial draft; not hands-on tested.
Version gate: Vendor guide references firmware later than 3.0.0.4.388.23000 on supported products; not universal support for every ASUS model.
Before you begin
Obtain a configuration from your authorized VPN service or server owner. Keep it local: it can contain a private key. Record which clients should use normal WAN.
Procedure
- Connect locally to the router and sign in to its actual management address.
- Open VPN > VPN Fusion and add a profile.
- Choose the supported WireGuard import option and upload the authorized configuration to the router, not RouterFix.
- Assign only the intended devices, apply the settings and enable the profile.
- Inspect the tunnel state before changing unrelated Wi-Fi settings.
Verify the result
Test a selected and an unselected client separately; check the intended route and DNS behavior. A connected icon alone is insufficient.
Undo or recover
Disable the new profile and return affected devices to their recorded WAN assignment.
Stop and escalate
A missing WireGuard option means the model/firmware gate must be checked; do not install an image for a different revision.
The steps above combine paraphrased official instructions with an original safety and test workflow. They are not a verbatim manual, a guaranteed fix, or evidence of a common hardware defect.
