Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: The researched U6+/U6 Pro/U6 Mesh/U7 Lite/U7 Pro hardware records.

Checked: 2026-11-01 · Risk: caution · Status: source-grounded editorial draft; not hands-on tested.

Before you begin

Use each AP’s actual specification, not “all UniFi uses the same PoE.” Check the complete switch/injector budget and local installation requirements before purchasing.

Procedure

  1. Keep a gateway/router responsible for DHCP and routing.
  2. Connect a compatible powered Ethernet path to the AP uplink. U7 Pro’s documented PoE+ requirement differs from products described only as PoE.
  3. Verify the uplink’s negotiated rate; a 2.5 GbE AP on a slower switch still has that wired-path limit.
  4. Use a supported controller version to provision the AP, preserving the existing working network during changes.
  5. Treat VLAN or guest-isolation changes as separate tested tasks rather than assuming an SSID name creates isolation.

Verify the result

The AP remains powered, the controller sees its uplink, and a client receives intended addressing and connectivity.

Undo or recover

Restore the previous AP/cable path and configuration. Never substitute an unverified passive injector because its plug fits.

Stop and escalate

Use qualified installation help for in-wall/outdoor cabling, grounding or uncertain power requirements.

Evidence and interpretation limits

This is an equipment-role and safety checklist, not a substitute for model-specific mounting/electrical instructions.

The steps above combine paraphrased official instructions with an original safety and test workflow. They are not a verbatim manual, a guaranteed fix, or evidence of a common hardware defect.

If the AP needs a separate PoE+ source

Check the exact AP input class, power draw and uplink rate first. A passive injector or a Gigabit-only adapter can be the wrong choice for a 2.5GbE AP; compare the adapter's published data and power ratings with your model's specifications.
