Check the exact device
Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Before you begin
Save the exact label, existing firmware and vendor-supported backup. A product’s age or a file with a larger number is not enough to identify the correct update.
Procedure
- Match country, hardware revision and the official support channel before opening an update file.
- Check whether updates are user-managed or ISP-delivered; Fast 5688W firmware is provider-pushed, not a user-requested upload.
- Read lifecycle notices independently of sales pages. DIR-X1560-US has a dated support-end notice; RX9 Pro’s accessible page shows an EOL badge without an established date.
- Use stable power and the manufacturer’s exact update procedure. Do not interrupt an in-progress write.
- After a completed update, record the actual reported version and retest critical services.
Verify the result
The device boots normally and displays the intended supported build. Verify Wi-Fi, WAN and any VPN separately.
Undo or recover
Use only the vendor’s supported recovery path. A rollback may be unavailable; never promise that restoring a backup reverses firmware.
Stop and escalate
Stop on region/revision mismatch, signature errors or an unknown recovery procedure. No third-party binary is included in this pack.
The steps above combine paraphrased official instructions with an original safety and test workflow. They are not a verbatim manual, a guaranteed fix, or evidence of a common hardware defect.
