Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: Verizon CR1000A/CR1000B official Router support scope.

Checked: 2026-11-01 · Risk: caution · Status: source-grounded editorial draft; not hands-on tested.

Before you begin

Keep a working local connection and note the rear-label credentials privately. Changing an SSID or password can disconnect cameras, printers and household controls.

Procedure

  1. Use the documented local address, myfiosgateway.com or 192.168.1.1, when actually connected to this router.
  2. Open Wi-Fi > Primary Network for the documented name/password controls and apply changes deliberately.
  3. For older devices, inspect the separate IoT network rather than removing security from the entire network.
  4. Check the relevant band/security combination; 6 GHz and older 2.4 GHz clients have different requirements.

Verify the result

Reconnect the intended device and test the service it needs, not only the Wi-Fi icon.

Undo or recover

Restore the recorded SSID/security values using the remaining local connection.

Stop and escalate

Do not press and hold Reset as a substitute for reconnecting a client.

Evidence and interpretation limits

The official FAQ describes primary-network access to IoT devices; calling that IoT SSID an isolated firewall zone would be unsupported.

The steps above combine paraphrased official instructions with an original safety and test workflow. They are not a verbatim manual, a guaranteed fix, or evidence of a common hardware defect.
