Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: TP-Link RE900XD AX6000 extender used as range extender or access point.

Official evidence: TP-Link RE900XD US specifications.

Before you begin

  • Inspect RE900XD unit label and physical port labels.
  • Have an upstream switch or router with a documented 2.5GbE port and a suitable cable for any multi-gig test.

Physical layout

ISP modem -> Home router (DHCP/NAT) -> 2.5GbE LAN/switch -> RE900XD (AP mode) -> wireless clients

What to check / do

  1. Identify the documented RE900XD 2.5GbE port separately from its two 1GbE ports.
  2. In a wired AP topology, connect the documented uplink to the upstream LAN and configure Access Point mode using the current TP-Link guide; do not place a second NAT router in front of it.
  3. Verify link speed at both switch and client. A 1GbE port must not be advertised as 2.5GbE.
  4. Test actual local transfers after confirming a correctly negotiated link. Separate Wi-Fi PHY rates from Internet-plan speed.

Verify the result

  • The upstream link reports the intended negotiated rate.
  • A client receives correct IP/gateway/DNS from the real upstream router and can access the internet.

If the result is not what you expected

  • Stop changing settings if you cannot identify the model or a reliable administrator recovery path.
  • Use the exact manufacturer support link below and quote your hardware label, firmware version, and what changed.

Restore / undo

Restore the previous range-extender setup and unplug the test uplink if the wired AP topology caused loss of connectivity.

Evidence, limits and editorial disclosure

Technical claims are based on the linked manufacturer or ISP page as checked on 2026-11-01. This is an independent explanatory checklist, not a claim that RouterFix tested the device. Hardware revision, regional SKU and firmware menus may differ. Unverified functions must remain unknown.
