TP-Link RE315 and RE330; the 100 Mbps Ethernet port, not the Wi-Fi speed class.
Check the exact device
Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.
Applies to: TP-Link RE315 and RE330; the 100 Mbps Ethernet port, not the Wi-Fi speed class.
Official evidence: TP-Link RE315 US specifications, TP-Link RE330 US specifications.
Before you begin
- Read the label to distinguish RE315 versus RE330 and confirm the U.S. hardware version.
- Confirm whether the slow device is connected to the extender Ethernet port or to its Wi-Fi SSID.
Important: A 100 Mbps Ethernet physical limit cannot be removed with firmware, DNS, or a different SSID.
What to check / do
- Check the exact port specification: the vendor lists Fast Ethernet, which is not Gigabit Ethernet.
- Record the desktop or console Ethernet link rate. A 100 Mbps link is expected from this port, even if a higher-rate router serves the network.
- Compare the same client over direct router Ethernet (a known Gigabit port), then by wireless. Do not equate the extender's combined AC1200 PHY marketing rate to one wired client.
- If you need more than the 100 Mbps wired port permits, compare extenders with documented Gigabit or 2.5GbE ports rather than repeatedly toggling Wi-Fi channels.
Verify the result
- The test client negotiates 100 Mbps on the RE315/RE330 wired port.
- The comparison path with a Gigabit-capable router and suitable cable negotiates faster when appropriate.
If the result is not what you expected
- Stop changing settings if you cannot identify the model or a reliable administrator recovery path.
- Use the exact manufacturer support link below and quote your hardware label, firmware version, and what changed.
Restore / undo
No factory reset is required. Restore the client to the original tested path if you changed cabling.
Evidence, limits and editorial disclosure
Technical claims are based on the linked manufacturer or ISP page as checked on 2026-11-01. This is an independent explanatory checklist, not a claim that RouterFix tested the device. Hardware revision, regional SKU and firmware menus may differ. Unverified functions must remain unknown.
