Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: ER7212PC current US V2.20 product-page specification; older versions need separate confirmation.

Three limits, not one

The current product page describes 24 managed devices: two gateways and 22 switches/EAPs. That is a controller-adoption limit, not the number of wireless client devices. The built-in switch has eight PoE+ LAN ports sharing a 110-W budget.

Design checklist

  1. Record the exact hardware version and integrated-controller firmware. Do not replace an older version's documented limit with the current page value.
  2. Count managed gateways, switches and APs separately from phones and computers.
  3. Sum the required power of devices attached to the eight PoE ports. Check both the per-port class and the shared 110-W budget; eight ports do not imply eight simultaneous maximum-power loads.
  4. Confirm uplink speed requirements separately. Its listed Gigabit/SFP interfaces do not become multi-gigabit because a downstream AP has a 2.5- or 10-GbE port.

Verify / undo

Compare adoption counts and switch power status before attaching a new device. If an AP fails to start, remove the newly added load and recheck power allocation rather than repeatedly factory-resetting it. A controller migration is a separate, backed-up operation; it is not required merely to test a cable.

Official evidence

Editorial boundary: No hands-on testing was performed. Confirm the device label, current firmware and live official instructions before making changes. Never send passwords, VPN keys or complete configuration backups to RouterFix.
