Instant On AP32: Why Selecting 2.4 and 6 GHz Can Disconnect a Mesh Node

Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: AP32 using Instant On radio controls; confirm the active wireless uplink band.

What is different

AP32 supports three selectable bands but has only two simultaneous radios. The default pair is 2.4 and 5 GHz. It is not a conventional three-radio tri-band AP.

Before changing the pair

Record the selected bands and determine whether the node reaches the network through 5-GHz wireless mesh or Ethernet. Keep a working Ethernet recovery path; do not make this change remotely without one.

Check and recover

  1. Open the AP's radio details and inspect Radio frequencies. Keep 5 GHz enabled when its existing mesh uplink depends on that band.
  2. If changing from 2.4/5 to 2.4/6 drops the node, temporarily reconnect it using Ethernet so management can reach it.
  3. Restore the previous radio pair and confirm the AP is online before removing the temporary cable.

The official help limits 6-GHz mesh here to AP32-to-AP32 links. Disabling Enable Networks on This Radio stops client networks on that radio, but does not necessarily disable mesh operation.

Verify / undo

Check the management view for actual uplink connectivity and test a client. Restore the recorded pair if clients lose their required band. Do not conclude that the AP is defective merely because a radio-selection change removed its backhaul.

Official evidence

Editorial boundary: No hands-on testing was performed. Confirm the device label, current firmware and live official instructions before making changes. Never send passwords, VPN keys or complete configuration backups to RouterFix.
