Check the exact device

Menu names and behavior can vary by US hardware revision and firmware. This guide was researched from official material, not tested on a physical router.

Applies to: AP22D US SKU S1U75A; reduced-power behavior requires the current device documentation.

Read the input and output separately

AP22D has a 2.5-GbE uplink and four Gigabit downlinks. Two downlinks can supply 802.3af power, up to 15 W each in the advertised full configuration. The QuickSpecs distinguishes 802.3bt Class 6 full functionality from 802.3at Class 4 limited functionality; it also lists 48-V DC power.

Preflight

  1. Identify the switch/injector's negotiated PoE class and remaining shared power budget. Ethernet link speed does not identify the power class.
  2. Check both downstream devices' power requirements against the AP's output limit. Count the AP's own power consumption as well as attached loads.
  3. Do not promise that Class 4 can power both downlinks. The inspected document does not specify its exact reduced-power allocation.
  4. Use an approved power source; never substitute the 12-V supplies used by some other Instant On APs.

Verify / undo

Add one downstream device at a time and inspect power status and stability. If the AP remains online but a downstream device is unpowered, investigate the power budget before changing VLANs. Disconnect the added load and restore the prior approved power arrangement if operation becomes unstable.

Official evidence

Editorial boundary: No hands-on testing was performed. Confirm the device label, current firmware and live official instructions before making changes. Never send passwords, VPN keys or complete configuration backups to RouterFix.
